Daily Quiz 3/31/11

I already started thinking about position 2 (or something like it) when I saw position 1 so let's consider position 2 first.
2. If Black were already anchored this would be ND/T, but in this sort of position (pre-holding game with a 20-pip race deficit), it makes a big difference whether the defender has already anchored. I see enough market losers to make it D/T for me. Yellow's position is a bit stacky, but even if Yellow is forced to expose a blot, Black still has to hit it and not get hit back on the 5pt to gain the upper hand.
1. Do we have to make sure we don't lose our double next turn? Looks like the straightforward 20/8(2) puts us close to a double next turn so I'm wary of leaving a direct shot. 20/14(2) 9/3(2) doesn't look as good as 20/8(2) so I play 20/8(2). If our opponent already owned the cube then I might consider more aggressive plays.
3, I hit here, bar/22 9/5*. Black has both five points slotted and I think we need to destroy one of them.
4. Bar/20 10/5*(2) is clear for the first three 5's. I see no reason not to hit twice with 6/1*; it's not like we're close to cashing and have to avoid getting hit back. Black's homeboard blot is another green light for a bold attacking play.
5. Again I don't see any reason not to make the greedy play: 24/23* 18/17* 18/16*. We slot a bunch of useful points while our opponent is dangling on the bar.
