Well said Mary. Exactly the reason why my first post on the matter made it clear that I would have made an appropriate settlement upon winning. Oleg by outright refusing (something he said himself) opened the door for an opponent tow onder if this was a mistake or something more.
Had he hedged, Peggy likely would have had no reason to come here. I believe that Oleg did not manage the risks properly. I can't imagine Oleg doesn't understand that his decision not to hedge opened the doors for the opponent to wonder.
If Oleg had made a fair settlement, I hope Peggy would have posted the story here without names to still bring attention to the scenario. The reason being is that I question a bit how results are posted during an event. I personally think staff could have made some better decisions that may have caught the problem earlier. Personally I think if no staff see a match being played, they should ask the player(s) until they find one that says they lost. It also has me curious how this could happen IF the brackets are clearly published. Either players didn't follow procedure in submitting results, or the system used by staff is broken. Since I do not know how the tournament is run I can't comment on why the system failed here.
Oleg ultimately screwed up, and his actions after cast *some* doubt for the opponent. Does it make Oleg a bad person. No, but it does tell me has something to learn about dealing with people. I think he simply mismanaged mitigating the risks after his error was corrected.
