Nothing to do with duplication. In general you should prefer making an inner board point while putting one of your opponent's checkers on the bar in the process opposed to hitting two checkers and leaving a blot in your inner board.

Here especially, you lock up the 5pt and four point board. If you do the hit loose two blot thing 1/3rd of the time you're on the bar next turn and no 5pt for you.
