No, it's not the duplication. Hitting once and making the 5pt is usually better than hitting twice while leaving a blot on the 5pt. The 5pt is a very strong permanent asset, plus the swing on your opponent's 5's is huge: If you hit twice then your opponent's 5's hit back, whereas your made 5pt blocks his entering 5's.
To concoct a position in which hitting twice is better than pointing on the 5pt might be possible, but it would require some ingenuity. Even if you just blindly apply the rule that you should always point on the 5pt if that option is available, you will seldom go wrong (at least with a non-doublet; with a doublet you can often accomplish several objectives at once, which in some cases could be better than pointing on the 5pt).
