Isn't this measurable?

I am not sure whether it is possible to run a test, but I expect that a decent player nowadays would waste about 15% on average in a 9 point match. Twenty years ago, I guess somewhere in the 25-30% range. So for a perfect player, there would be less of an edge.

I am also sure playing BG as a moneymaking proposition is much less attractive now for top players then that it used to be in the 70s and 80s. At the same time, as an intellectual endeavor it may have become more interesting.
