of course backgammon has been solved

Felafel, I think the point is that in the old days pre bot brilliant minds used logic to figure out strategies and tactics.
Now anyone can play a bot and analyze, for example the bot tells him to move that last checker out to the 18 point exposed to a triple shot which looks counter intuitive - the average player pre bot would never have had a clue, he still doesn't understand why it's correct, but he knows the bot always nearly always does that - so guess what, he won't keep making that mistake forever.
Then there are young computer experts like MCG who learned the game playing against Snowie and GNU - for them coming out to the 18 point is natural, they understand why.
Of course it hasn't been "solved" - but the mystery is somewhat less than it used to be. Now everyone seems to have the same style - even the former safety first players are learning to go for a gammon having been gammoned with a blitz so many times by a bot - so a guy like Eric Seidel probably knew that before bots whilst his opponents did not. A huge edge!
