Do you know the definition of "solved"?

There are billions of ways to put the checkers on the board in a manner which is not illegal (such as Red and White on the same point) and not obviously impossible (such as more than 15 checkers on the bar). You could take any one of these positions and see if you could reach it from the opening position.

Would it in principle be possible to have a computer program to search systematically through all possible positions and conclude definitively for each position whether or not it can be reached from the opening ? Would that take a long time for even the most powerful computers ?
