I disagree mostly with the word 'useful'. On average, how many games out of 1,000 do you think this 'useful reference position' would come in handy? I'm going to guess due to rounding it's 0/1000. Out of 10,000? Still probably 0. Out of 100,000? Still 0 I'm thinking. I don't have many reference positions memorized and the ones I do are by pure accident.
