Limit On Doubles

If this was done I would like a limit to how often bad doubles are rolled also. For example how much would it suck to roll as your last double a 11 if you have a stack of checkers on the ace and two points and a checker coming home?
So I propose that the player can voluntarily play only two of the numbers and not have it count as a double, and the player could also play none of the numbers (unless it is a timing situation, the opponent could force you to play all of them but since you were willing not to play all of them it doesn't count towards the doubles count) and actually get a double removed from the tally.
The above could greatly increase the skill needed. For example suppose it is DMP, you have already used one of your doubles and the opponent also only 1. In boring regular backgammon this play is not so interesting. But in the variation you must decide how many of the aces should you play (all of them using up a double, 2 of them, or none of them getting a double back)? Nice to have a question that one cannot just feed to the bots isn't it?
