Nice problem. The first thing I'd note is that you have an odd number of checkers left. Thus, bearing two checkers often doesn't save you a roll. To put it another way, bearing off only one checker doesn't speed up your bearoff much. You definitely don't want to get hit here and 5/1 4/off avoids blotting on 61 51 41 so it looks like the better play.
