The normal procedure for cashing a check (checque?), even if it is in foreign currency, is to take it to the bank, hand it in, done. Worked in the 1980s in Europe for US$ nominated checks, should work in the USA in 2011 for Euro nominated checks. The issues, in general, are the cashing fees which (in the 80s in Europe) differed hugely by bank, so you may ask around. With some banks had to present it at the teller, with others we could just mail it in. Also conversion to local currency is an issue, not sure about your exchange rate (maybe better to set up a Euro account at your bank).
In this case, I am not sure how you'd best handle it if you get a check. Last time I got one was in the USA in 1989 after an international draughts tournament, lost 20% on cashing. It is a lousy way to pay / get paid.
