Anchor or Hit?

Nack: Does [the above position] belong in the left-hand (anchor), middle (cusp), or right-hand (hit) position of its trio?

Tim: I'm guessing it's on the cusp. Hitting gives Blue a poor distribution; he doesn't want two checkers on the 24pt and only two checkers on the midpoint, and as you said, a hit in our own outer board is less potent than a hit on the opponent's side of the board. However, a hit is still a hit and White's undeveloped position doesn't pose much of a threat to us, whereas we could launch a blitz if things go well.
Higonefive: The front position from White isn't developed. He threatens to escape a runner, perhaps forming an outfield point and getting some structure. So i would hit.
Nack: Fine analysis, guys, except for the conclusions. The best play is to anchor!
For reference, the cusp position of that trio (i.e., where anchoring and hitting are of equivalent value) is diagrammed below, followed by the position in which it is correct to hit. (For analysis of all three positions, see Chicago Point #178.)
