There was quite a bit of good analysis posted when Paul first presented this position. It's clearly a difficult problem if Stick got it wrong OTB.

To summarize, because of the opponent's six-prime, you must try to counterprime. Getting hit is not as bad as failing to build a counterprime. You see that all the top plays are focused on counterpriming. If you imagine that you're not going to get hit then you can see that 11/7 6/4 and 8/4 6/4 are the most promising priming plays. However, they will also lose more gammons than 13/7 or 24/22 11/7 when things go poorly, so you have to estimate the tradeoff between extra wins and extra gammons lost. This tradeoff depends on the match score, so you might get a slightly different verdict for a money game.

By the way, can somebody say what Stick played OTB?
