Here, Blue is farther behind in the race than example 2, so there's less to lose by being hit. He can also make a nice point in the process of hitting. POH with 10/7* 8/7.

I'm assuming money play & Jacoby here. At gammon-save I'd be looking at a safer play (6/2).
