I will try to do a 5k 2-ply rollout for both, if my netbook (!) doesn't need too many days for it.

2-ply should be about 30 times slower than 0-ply...

A possible alternative is to use a custom setting, with 0-ply for checker plays and 2-ply for cube decisions. This will be only about 4 times slower.
