I do not know the difference of level between GNuBG 0-ply an 2-ply, but, for information, here it is for XG.
XG1 1-ply is about 70 Elo (2.1 PR) lower than XG1 3-ply. It breaks down into60 Elo weaker in checker play (1.8 PR) 100 Elo weaker in cube play (3 PR)
XG2 1-ply is about 39 Elo (1.2 PR) lower than XG1 3-ply. It breaks down into38 Elo weaker in checker play (1.15 PR) 42 Elo weaker in cube play (1.3 PR)
XG2 1-ply is about 52 Elo (1.6 PR) lower than XG2 3-ply. It breaks down into49 Elo weaker in checker play (1.5 PR) 71 Elo weaker in cube play (2.15 PR)
I do not advice to use 1-ply (at least in V1) if the position is rather complex or if there can be cube action soon
