There have been, and are, a number of Swiss tourneys.

Most tournaments increase the number of match points with rounds to, ideally, enhance the skill requirements. Monte Carlot final is 25 as an example, first round is only to 15.

Some tournaments have best of three matches in each round, or later rounds, so the broad range of skill is enhanced -- both by minimizing dice impact in a single match and by making match play skills (match equity, etc.) more significant by being necessary in all the shorter matches rather than perhaps just the end of one longer match.
