Thanks, Bill. What are some examples of tournaments that use the Swiss system?

I'm aware that tournaments increase the lengths of the matches, but in my mind, a single 25-point match is pretty short for the final of something called the 'World Championship.' A 25-point match is perhaps roughly equivalent to a single chess game, and I can't imagine anyone taking the world chess championship seriously if it were based on just one game.
