Denmark v. World Final Match

I find it hard to believe they played so poorly. I think it is safe to say that watching the top players in the world play is not a lot different from watching two bots play. If that is the case, doesn't it suggest that maybe it is time for some changes to be made (at the highest levels only) to make the game more challenging and interesting and to require more "creativity."
Maybe Nackgammon is the answer, or the Simborg Rule (not allowed to make a point or run on the opening move), or maybe "duplicate backgammon" in some form where each player starts out in a very complicated or deep back game or holding game, and then you play the next game from the same position with the board turned around?
The same kind of thing happened years ago in the sport of racquetball. The top players had virtually perfected their hard, low, drive serve to the point where most of the time they either won the point on the serve or on the very next shot after a weak return. So we changed the rules...we made the players start farther away from the wall to make it easier for the opponent to see the serve coming, and we gave the server only one serve so that he couldn't take two shots at the killer serve. The game instantly became more interesting.
Baseball put in the DH--football moved the kickoff back so that not every kickoff went through the end zone. At the highest levels, games and sports need to keep it interesting, fun and challenging, and the Nordic Open proves to me that the top players are all pretty much interchangeable and the outcome is much more likely to be determined by luck when the skill differences are always going to be under 1.0 PR. How frigging boring!
Again, I am NOT talking about changing the game for the rest of us, or even for the Open Division...but maybe the Masters and any Giant events.
