The 4 pt is better here since it creates a 3 pt board and makes great use of those spares and this structure often leads to priming also. It is NOT 4 pt vs bar pt but 4 pt + 8 pt vs bar pt, making it a blunder to make the bar pt here.

It may look sexy to block the pt that is 6 in front of the anchor, but it is only a 3 prime and in reality those checkers aren't staying on the ace pt. Much better to close the next best inside pt as sometimes people lose games when they dance on the best 3 pt board.
