How do you "break the ties"?
One way would be to use a repeated Elo rating simulation. Here's how it would work:
- Everybody starts with a rating of 1500.
- The results of each round are fed (in random order) into the Elo formula and each player's "rating" is updated accordingly. Do this for all seven rounds.
- Now repeat (for all 7 rounds), only this time use a lower "adjustment" factor. (The second time around, the ratings would be adjusted only half as much as they were the first time. E.g., start with an "M" factor (as defined here) of 5 and divide the M factor by 2 on each successive simulation.)
- Complete 10 simulations and use the resulting "ratings" to rank the players. (I don't think there would be any ties.)
The idea of this method is that players get more credit for wins against strong opponents.
