- 1: 24/18 13/11
- I think Blue must try for an advanced anchor of his own here. Giving White something to shoot at may help her develop her stack, but Blue is even worse off for a positional squeeze lacking the advanced anchor, and having his spares either stacked on mid, or cramped before the anchor.
24/22 8/2 is the straightforward play, but maybe Blue can try for more with 24/18, aiming for the better anchor, getting the slot beyond the big stack and serving as deflection for the point making plays. Hitting with 6s costs White her mid, and 1s are slightly dup-ed with diversifying the 6pt stack, so 24/18 does not look bad at all. Then maybe even 13/11 unstacking and relying on the 4-dup that will make it more interesting to hit the blue runner with a free checker than to release the anchor. It may be too big, but that's my try,
- 2: Double/take
- White has only 9 checkers in the zone, her back checkers have not started moving, and she is not shooting at other blots. For starters a big take. Blue has no development though, and White has three good points, which make it closer.
Kit's backgammon encyclopedia has a similar position with one of the 8pt checkers still on the mid which is also a big take, and again the improvement must make it much closer. I guess it is still a take but close.
- 3: b/21 13/11
- I think Blue can use an asset and some solidity. His three backward blots provide enough flexibility.
- 4: Double/take
- Again from Kit's BE, 5 point games against the 11pt do about as well as 5pt games against the mid point. They may benefit more from a big race lead than the midpoint variations, as this translates into more chances to clear safely, and that is even more important when what you leave is a direct shot. Otoh, Blue has an additional holding point that can be held in some variations, and White's made acept wil hurt a little in the race, and can hurt more if this ends up in a positional struggle following hits. Also while not a big consideration yet, Blue must have a little for score, as he can redouble to 4 threatening to go ahead, and where White has overage on any rerecube to 8. I go for still a take.
- 5: No double / take
- Being behind notwithstanding, I think Blue must have more than this to cube. He has a race lead, but no positional advantage, and no real scary threats, he is rather threatening to threaten here.
