The Backgammon Encyclopedia, Volune 1: Cube reference Positions by Kit Woolsey; and Backgammon Boot Camp are both full of fantastic reference positions.

I have also published 3 articles in Gammon Village on Reference positions, one of which was a quiz, that most people have found very helpful; and you can go to backgammon galore and find many articles with many fine reference positions .

Aside from the 10 or 12 major, important reference positions that we all absolutely need to know, the best reference positions are the ones you find, create, study and keep for yourself, as you will remember them easier because they will be "in context" of the situation where they occurred.

I have one where I remember I made the wrong play and it cost me the match against Carter and I remember not only the position, but the way he laughed at me when I made the play. I have not made that particular mistake since. I remember another where I was in the box with Jake and I picked up my dice too soon and I can still feel that rap on the top of my head. I will never forget that position.
