I play 8/2*/1 as well, but I think the other main candidate is 11/5 6/5. Though it leaves a blot on the 11pt, 11/5 6/5 makes a much better point and puts a spare on the 6pt to good use. 13/7 8/7 is better than 11/5 6/5 only in exceptional cases (e.g., when blocking the opponent's checkers on the ace point is especially important or when 11/5 6/5 is too inflexible) and I'd be surprised if this is one of the exceptions.
