Daily Quiz 5/4

1. Lots of ways to try for the blitz, but they all seem to leave two blots with only eight checkers in the zone. Maybe I'm too timid but I'll just go for structure here. 24/21(2) 13/10(2).
2. If we could hit in the opponent's outfield then I'd consider passing up the 4pt but I don't see anything here that would tempt me away from the 4pt, even ATS. I'm not sure about the fourth 2 but I'll try bar/21 6/4(2).
3. So I got the fourth 2 wrong. Oh well. The two candidates here seem to be 13/9* and 8/5 6/5. (I suppose 24/23 16/13 is also a candidate but it's hard to believe that it could be correct.) 8/5 6/5 should lose fewer gammons but 13/9* should win more games. Not sure but I'll try 13/9*.
4. I don't think 3/2*(2) accomplishes much. It force White forwards a little but I think White is going to be forced to run soon anyway. More important is to find a way to clear our outfield points safely. Mike Corbett calls the seven-away point the "Cinderella point"; it's often a good point to occupy when you are trying to clear safely. I'll go for 13/12(4).
5. Despite some effort to study these sorts of cube actions, I still routinely blunder away gobs of equity on them. From the point of view of a blitz, it would seem that Blue is in decent shape because White has only a two-point board while Blue has the best three-point board. However, White has mostly escaped her last checker and is way ahead in the pip count. She doesn't have to blitz but can prime instead, and even if Blue makes the 21pt anchor, White can just win the holding game. Blue has some chances seem to hit a fly shot right away, since White is unlikely to be able to clean up all her blots, but the chances don't look good. D/P for me. If I'm right about this, it would be interesting to see how much difference it makes to move White's checker back into Blue's home board.
