But that's just an opinion. There is nothing in the rules that distinguishes the two cases.
Why should a player have an option to enforce the rules? Shouldn't the rules always be enforced? (If I notice the board is set up wrong, do I have an option to let it go?) The fact that there is an option in the rules suggests it is a normal part of the game.
Remember, I'm only talking about the rules as they are written.
I realize that many players like to adopt a "legal moves only" policy. (I'm one of them.) And the fact that it is common practice suggests that most people see nothing wrong with it. I'm not arguing that people shouldn't do it. I'm just pointing out that it may be against the rules.
