Of course playing faster than one wants could be detrimental. The worst error one could make though is too lose on time. One player in the field has timed out twice I think. MCG and myself never have.

I am not sure it is correct to say that I like to end a match with little time remaining, it just seems to just often happen that way. What I do like is taking my time on moves that need time early on in the match. I know those moves definitely are happening and if the match has a few large games or is one sided the moves late will never happen at all.
