In Response To: Giants of backgammon chicago tournament (rory)

Nice offer, Carter; unnecessary cheap shot at Rory. Nice response, Rory.

I, for one, would like to commend Rory for all of his hard work, innovation, creativity, and responsiveness to suggestions in promotion of the tourney.

He has worked his ass off to make the tournament a success -- calling, writing, and contacting people in every way. He has introduced the Giants of Backgammon Tournament which has generated considerable additional interest and participation -- hopefully, it is very successful and some of the other Giants, including the Europeans, will put the tourney on their calendars next year. He has been most receptive in refinement of the Championship format to provide a fun, challenging event that will produce a very worthy champion.

He has a great, conveniently located venue, reasonable hotel rates, reasonable entries, reasonable rakes, and a great spot on the calendar. He has taken the hospitality ideas, initiated perhaps by others, to new heights. He has scheduled two excellent lectures -- including a rare opportunity for all of us in the States to hear World Champion and #1 Giant Mochy. He is including a Children's tourney, as have others, to help in the promotion of the game. I know Phil and others do a lot in the Chicago area with kids and colleges, maybe some of them can participate.

Rory is relatively new at directing tournaments and comparatively young, so sure he's got some things to learn, but he brings a breath of fresh air, a wealth of energy to the job, and a willingness to admit and learn from his experiences and any mistakes. I'm very much looking forward to a great event and a great weekend.

I think we should all encourage Rory and express our appreciation for another developing great event on the ABT calendar. I know I will.

Carter, despite your differences, it is a great event in your own hometown. Support it. I'm glad to see you're attending, I'm glad to see your gracious offer of hospitality toward out-of-town guests. I think you should give Rory a break and offer encouragement and assistance, not discord and disdain.
