Daily Quiz 5/10

- 1: 11/7 11/8
- 11/4 seems to be worse than 7/4 7/3 in giving the same 6-shot now that Blue only might have to give later. The pay now play must be 11/7 11/8 that gives 11 shots now to hopefully save 15 later. With the 7 point gone Blue has only doubles to clear, minus 66, and 33 and 11 only go part way - count 4 clearing numbers. To start with 8 sixes and 54 blot, but after the 6 point is stripped - probably next turn already - 51, 41 and 65 blot as well, and when the 6 point is gone there are blot numbers galore, and White can probably split with aces as well. Counting a mean of 16 blot numbers, I guess that it becomes correct to pay now, more so because White's board may still improve.
- 2: 15/8
- Stacks a little, but not too badly - Blue's position is still well balanced. What 15/10 13/11 might add in flexibility doesn't make up for giving a direct shot when well ahead in the race, and even giving a number of hit and covers.
- 3: 8/3 6/3
- Blue's back man looks like a sitting duck, but only 43,11,22 points on it. After the loose hits, Blue has ways to hit back and make use of his made 3pt. Blue has to develop his stacks somehow, and he rolled the number to do so now, also - after 22/14, the White hits in the outfield are quite comfortable, not giving a direct return hit, and bringing in builders, and when it works Blue is still not much ahead in the race and has the candlestick position.
With only one back and a race deficit, I don't think White has much of a cube after any play, and I am not sure which play is the one to avoid giving White the more efficient cube.
- 4: 23/22 6/4
- Blue is far enough back to go for a backgame. 24/22 24/23 makes the nice 2-3 game now, but it seems a slight waste of good small numbers to not start slotting. 6/4 6/5 working up front totally is the other extreme, and possible, but not making at least one forward anchor seems risky. I go for the tweener 6/4 23/22 which secures 2 anchors and start slotting and unstacking 6
- 5: Double/drop
- Blue seems to have race, position and threats here, so a strong double indeed. White's position has some good points, but all in all I don't see enough to take here.
- Bonus: Double/drop
- Some of these stacked positions are better than they look, but I don't think this one is. With only 2 Blue board points White can release the points and save timing enough to keep good coverage for many rolls. The shots will come, and there is serious gammon danger.
