Northwestern University Students Have No Respect

Thanks Mary, very generous. If you will offer a discount to any female under the age of 23 who enters, I pay the entry fee and all expenses for any one-legged, one-eyed, diabetic transvestite.

But you bring up a very good point...we just are not very successful attracting new female college players. At the high school level, (and we're in about 8 of them and more about to start) we seem to be reaching a fair number of the girls, but I would guess that out of about 200 college students that I have on my list as interested in joining a backgammon club, only about 10 (5% to you) are women.

I don't believe we've done anything that particularly targets men, or stays away from women, and I have made a special effort to contact the head of women's clubs at colleges (particular women in math, computer science, physics, and engineering) and have had very poor--almost no, response.

Maybe if we require the men currently playing in backgammon to comb their hair, use deodorant, and wear clean clothes, we can attract more women to the game. At least now, with you and Carol and Karen and Antoinette and a few others we have some role models. I am open to ideas. Perhaps incentives for women, like the one your are offering, is what it takes.
