I, for one, agree, Phil. Obviously, not every conceiveable circumstance can be anticipated -- partially because some wise ass is always going to try to push the envelope or circumvent the rules; however, there is now, as you say, so much ambiguity in the limited rules and, consequently, so much inconsistency with directors' interpretations of the same that players cannot know what to expect or how to act within the rules -- which only increases the potential for a greater number of disputes. The backgammon community could, and should, do much better.
