Arda,

You are quite clearly a classy guy, motivated by good intentions, and the right attitude, and I hope many backgammon players will follow the example that you set. However I respectfully suggest that it is not your job to guess why someone made a stupid, but legal play. My record of top level play is well established. Yet as I commented elsewhere, I made exactly the same kind of mental error recently. I did so, just a roll after making a comment to my opponent (Bill as it happens) about his checker on the bar. Quite simply, I deserved to be punished for my lack of concentration and obvious, unintentional oversight leaving a shot a roll later. I didn't misread the dice; I didn't count wrong; I was just not paying attention and I CHOSE the wrong play. Your intentions were noble, but frankly you put your opponent in the position where (I believe) to do the right thing they must reject your gracious offer. So if that is the case, why put them in such a position?

Legal play = final play. That is how it should be. Those are the rules.
