Tournament Cube Action - Take or Drop?

If I were offered this cube I would call a TD/Host immediately before taking. I just don't know if there is anything that compels players to contact a host when a legal cube action is being offered in a situation like this. Some intermediate players may not see giving up a match as a big deal. To me though, it is a serious cause for concern (especially in swiss or round robin play). If I accept the cube in question and never mention it to the TD and go to post my result, did I do the right thing? Was I any better than the opponent in accepting? if its not the right thing where can I find out what is acceptable or not (ie. was it in the rules somewhere?)
