Rules vs common practice

Secondly, it is rather common practice in live play that when in a non-contact bear-off and a player's roll is clearly sufficient to remove the remaining checkers and win the game, that the players simply acknowledge "game over" and start the next game.
I agree.
Had my opponent rolled 63 here, I cannot imagine anyone pointing out that he failed to bear off the checker from the ace point.Neither can I.
But until recently I couldn't believe that anyone could point out that his opponent has put his own checker on the bar.
While not strictly in accordance with the written rules, I'd say that it is sufficiently common practice amongst players of all levelsHow can we divide for which situations to use "common practice amongst players of all levels" and for which to play "strictly in accordance with the written rules"?
Where I play, common practice is that you will correct your opponent if he puts his own checker on the bar (instead of yours), or if he enters from the bar from your checker instead of his, because those are insane moves.
What makes one "common practice" more right than other? Where to draw a line?
Btw, I would play by "common practice" in both (63 example and putting yourself on bar) situations. I'm not talking about situation from thread start.
