Your comment on Problem 4 that "the board can wait" prompts me to elaborate on my reasoning. It's clear that we are in danger of being attacked, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's safer to clean up our outfield blot than to cover our home-board blot. Making our 2pt gives us significantly more protection against being attacked. Also, the face-off between our blot and the opponent's blot in the outfield is double-edged. It's true that our outfield blot might get hit with an ace, but if not, our blot puts pressure on our opponent to clean it up. All that said, my play of 5/2 might still be wrong, but I think the general principle that the best defense is often good offense is still a relevant consideration here.
