If your opponent rolls a winning number and you extend your hand to him, I personally would not entertain for a second the claim that you actually thought he had rolled something else and you were accepting his resignation instead.

But this does help illustrate why, as much as I support the concept of clear and unambiguous rules, the notion of a perfect rulebook is a pipe dream. There are just too many bizarre situations that can be imagined. Do you think we need a rule that says shaking hands and saying "Good match" is not enough - you must also verbally confirm with your opponent which player won?
