side by side installation?

I just installed the latest beta, just a couple of questions before I start using it extensively.

Is my profile data shared between XG2 and XG1? That is, can I safely analyse my games with either version and view my stats with either version or is it safer to create a new profile?

When a new beta is out with more bug fixes should I use the XG2 'check for updates' option or visit the website and download manually?

I'm already liking XG2 more, XG1 said I played a 4.7 in my last session, but XG2 said it was really a 4.2, it must really be stronger! heh :)
