Norway Open is cancelled because of legal issues

It's strange indeed. One can definitively argue about which events there really are, where the outcome is not affected by randomness at all.

The way they interpret it is that (almost?) all kinds of sports are OK, since the outcome is determined by skill. Chess is also OK as there are no random elements there. Even the Norwegian Bridge Association has managed to get a green light for bridge. The argument was that the different teams play the same hands in a bridge tournament. So even if the hands are dealt randomly, the difference in scoring between the teams must be due to skill.

The backgammon association is considering whether it could be possible to get some exemption of the same kind as bridge. Or we could have tournaments where all matches receive the same dice rolls, and try to invoke the bridge argument :-)
