Daily Quiz 5/18

- 1. Double/drop
- Blue has the better race and the better position. He is a bit thin on major threats, having few men up front. But White has one on the bar, and importantly: Even if she should make an advanced anchor she has little play, the stack on 6 makes it hard to build something for forward play, and she has not timing enough for a back game. So it looks like a comfortable drop to me.
- 2. Double/take
- Keith count: 53-50
- 3. 8/3 6/3
- Assets are supposedly everything, and I'd prefer 8/3 6/3 for money - Blue will need points eventually, the back checker isn't seriously primed, 24/16 is a somewhat feeble run, and White would just love to unstack with a hit. DMP may change the priorities here, just running will be relatively better. And even 24/21 13/8 may be considered, unstacking the fat 13pt. However, for fear of falling to the inflated comparison I stick with the money play
- 4. b/20 24/20
- With White having 3 back already, hitting one more is a little less valuable. Just making the 5 point leaves fewer places for all of White builders to go, and reduces the value of the made 3 point
- 5. 6/4 3/2
- The hit turns a small race lead into a real one, but the bold/safe criteria says "safe" in unison here, and especially with the unturned cube I think Blue is supposed to eschew the hit. 4/1 cleans up the blots and puts pressure on the White mid blot, but sacrifises some flex and racing equity. The pure play 6/4 3/2 leaves 3 blots, and lets White's blot stay a roll for free. But everything plays safely next turn and makes the better board, so I think Blue should play for flexibility
