Daily Quiz 5/22

1) Blue is on roll and ahead in the race, while white has a blot stuck behind a 5 prime. The double looks pretty clear as 42 52 or any double is a market loser.
Can White take? I think so, but barely. A small roll by blue followed by a big roll by white and the game is turned around. D/T
2) I think I like the golden point here better than the four point. The race is close enough that Blue can win going forward, so there's no reason to hang back on the ace. Slotting the 4 seems to be the most useful thing to do with the 2. 24/20 6/4
3)Ship it. On the bar against a 5 point board with only the ace to enter says it's good enough to cube. The 14 market losers tell me it's ripe to cube. The paucity of gammons tells me it's not too good.
I wouldn't take this as white. I'm up 6 to 1, so I don't mind "wasting" a point D/P.
4) Blue still has some work to do, but his superior board, white's man on the roof, and white's burried checkers add up to a clear advantage. Plus, there are gammons on the horizon if white dances too long. OTOH, it's a holding game and I'm loathe to double holding games. I say ship it anyway, because I'm having trouble deciding if white can take or not.
For the take decision, if White can manage to scramble off the bar and make it to the bar point she'll have a quite playable backgame. That might give enough to take. I'm not sure, but I'll say take. D/T.
5) Blue's behind in the race, but ahead in position and threats. That usually implies D/T, but with the lead in the match I'd hold for a roll or two to see what happens. The take seems clear - blue isn't even off the ace point yet, and white has the beginnings of a nice blockade. White's homeboard blot is problematic, but it's not a disaster. ND/T
