It is subjective, and I'd venture to guess the bottom part of the 32 list may not be any better than a lot of people in the 33-64 range. As well the 64-list (in recent years) is usually published as part of the Giant's list as an addendum. If they weren't Giants I'd say the Top 64 list shouldn't be published at all

I think in the early years of backgammon the number of great BG players was smaller and a 32 list was likely reasonable. With the advent of bots and all the BG literature and the number of good players coming up through the ranks it is harder to find a solid "32 list".

Personally I am all for the Top 64 list being "The" Giant's List and scrapping the Top 32 one altogether.
