In Response To: Daily Quiz 5/25 (Stick)

1. 8/5 6/5
Blue is not too concerned about White hitting from the anchor here, White primarily wants to make his own 5pt first, and most hits now leave many returns, which are more powerful with Blue's 5pt made. 44 and 22 which hits cleanly are very good anyway, and even 45 is somewhat good making the 8 point. An alternative is 24/23 11/8 - Blue would like to get out even if trailing some in the race, but the play doesn't buy many chances for a clean run, and Blue is trailing by a good bit.
2. 13/9* 13/11
The natural 13/9*/7 makes the 7 point which is valuable if White enters with an ace, and leaves only one blot, and 7 returns(11,13,16 and 36). The alternative 13/9* 13/11 leaves 3 blots, but still only 7 returns (11,16,36,56) and gets 4 builders for the more important 6pt. With White's weak board w/blot I think Blue can afford the more flexible play.
3. 16/12 14/12 8/6
The natural play is 100% safe next roll, and doesn't rate to be bad later. I go with the simple play here
4. double/take
Blue is a reasonable fav with 20 hitting numbers and some G, and not too much G against with White overstacked on the ace. And this may well be his last chance to give a proper double. So D/T for money. AtS White's TP and Gammon price are a little higher than for money, so the double is clearer, but the take still very clear.
5. 22/6
I don't like the tweener play 22/14 13/9(2) - The 9 pt doesn't go with the 3pt, and blocking the anchor is less valuable, as White isn't looking to release it. So if Blue runs, I would have him run all the way 22/6. 13/5(2), the good alternative, makes the best point, but Blue is left stripped, and I think the time has come to get out of dodge, so I play the slightly strange 22/6
