When you compare what you get from XG for $50 to what you got from Snowie for $400.00, I think it's kind of hard to complain about Xavier's pricing. And for those who bought XG when it first came out, just look at how many upgrades and improvements you received over the past 2 years at no charge.
Now, there is a vastly improved product that XG has allowed everyone to try at no cost to see if they would like to upgrade to the new model. Once he finishes perfecting it even more and feels it is ready for purchase and puts a price on it, nobody is forcing you to buy it. If you think the price is too high, you can stay with the product you have, which is still far superior than to the $400.00 version you can buy today from Snowie.
As for comparing the developer's cost to the price, a developer is entitled to get what the market will bear--he's entitled to get a profit for his ingenuity and intellectual value of his product in addition to his raw cost for development, not to mention the cost of the hundreds of hours of labor that went in to making the improvements and perfecting them.
In addition to comparing the cost of XG to Snowie, try comparing it to the cost of a backgammon book, a backgammon lesson, or traveling to a tournament to attend a single lecture, and compare what you get for your money in comparison. XG is a fantastic bargain. If Xavier had priced his initial product at $100 instead of $50, I doubt there would be anyone here who has XG that would not have bought it for the higher price now that they see what a terrific tool it is.
It just doesn't seem particularly fair-minded to me to complain about the cost of XG when you look at it from any objective standard.
