Upcoming release speed improvements and computers

I used XGR++ Gigantic SI to analyze every move of my 11pt match vs Barry Silliman where we both played rather well. This took a bit less than an hour using my hexa core i7-980 at 4.34 Ghz.
To compare to a more common new machine.. my new lap top that cost $850 and has the awesome Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM chip is about half that speed and 6 times faster than my old laptop.
Sandy Bridge architechture is great for floating point. To compare again..this computer is a quad core i7-2600K overclocked to 4.9 Ghz and it is no worse that 10% slower than my hexacore. Do the math and you'll see that 6 x 4.34 is lots more than 4 x 4.9, so the new SB chips are the way to go for price vs performance. I won't be buying any more computers that aren't SB chips at least until Intel does something better.
Hopefully 8 core SB chips will be out in Q4 2011 but don't expect them to be a budget item.
