What I think when I hear about 'creativity' in backgammon, is to find non-natural looking plays that are either right, or not wrong by much. Example: You have a five-point board, with no spares, and the opponent has a blot on the remaining point. There are some situations where it is not very wrong to break one of the five points and hit the blot, leaving two home board blots yourself. When you find such a play you are (in my mind) being creative.
