Thank you, Mary.

I get so exasperated by those chasing the Holy Grail of PR.

Certainly, a lower PR and, most significantly, a substantially lower PR, than opponents will typically lead, over a sizable sample of matches, to increased success.

However, a low PR is not, and should not be, the sole motivation of play -- unless one only plays the bot being used to analyze and to determine the PR.

A low PR is not all of the 'GAME'. A low PR and the dice are not all of the 'GAME'. There are a number of additional, and at times significant, factors to playing and to winning. We, generally, play human opponents and, generally, varying human opponents -- all play differently. A bot is only perfect in it's own programmed play and it's analysis is measured, only, against that standard.

As in many sports and games, "they don't ask how, they ask how many".

Until that changes, the PR disciples are certainly, at least in part, deluding themselves and will continue to be disappointed.

Reminds me of the story of a reknowned Texas player of thirty or so years ago -- Gus Michalopolous (or some such spelling). Gus was a mechanical engineering professor, very intelligent, and a type A personality. I played him several times in tournaments -- he was a very nice, very intense, and high-strung guy. He, the story goes, considered that he played a near perfect game and was, in his mind, considerably better than any of his competitors. Yet, he continued to lose on occasion and did not win nearly as much as he thought he should. Unable to rationalize or reconcile these results, and risking his sanity in his quest, he gave up the game.
