U, with threats of direct shots in the outfield, makes it difficult for the opponent to put his running checker into a safe place (and if he's a fish, he will try to play safe). So U is my choice.
$ is nice but diversifies the opponent's fours.
S, Z, &, D are too loose for DMP.
R mirrors the opponent but it's not the right thing to do because it leaves the opponent with his race advantage due to the opening roll.
