Another way to look at it is how your 5s play as well. I dont disagree about best practices on clearing vs a backgame. However, white hasnt yet created an effective backgame yet. There are opportunities to create a good spare distribution right now, and I somewhat disagree with trying to preclear points in advance of this less than certain backgame.

Its a matter of technique. I am certainly no master at it, but this is what I would do OTB.. I am sure Neil wouldnt have posted this unless making the bar was a monster whopper with 14 different cheeses.
