I play 13/11 8/3 too, though I regard this as not just a priming play but a blitzing play as well. We bring another checker into the zone (making the 11pt is usually very strong when the 5pt is still open) and make a good home-board point. Pointing on the 1pt is even more of a blitzing play but we then lack a Plan B if the blitz fails. Since we are still somewhat short of attacking material and are behind in the race, having a Plan B of priming is pretty important.

Having said that, the score may change things slightly because 5/1* 3/1 looks more gammonish. Still, I play 13/11 8/3.
