Last turn, Blue correctly played H (Hit, 13/11 6/3) instead of K (Kill, 6/3*/1*). Consistent with that strategical restraint, he should now follow up with O (Outer, 13/11 8/3). If White enters, fine; let her play with her awkward, overextended position and in some cases Blue may be able to attack as or more effectively. White's immediate entrances of 65 61 41 31 are anoying.

In the variant on the right, White (by virtue of having played 53P instead of 55P) has two spares on her midpoint, allowing her to better handle her entering rolls and a priming battle in general. If we also change the score to gammon go (both changes seem necessary), then P (Point, 6/1* 3/1) looks best.

Changing the left-hand position by giving Blue an extra 13/11 (he has already covered his 11pt before the play) produces another variant, shown below. This 13/11 is obviously a big change yet I don't know if it's enough for P to overtake O! (It may depend on score.) The closeness of this decision helps demonstrate how much stronger O is in the original position.
